広島県の南西部に位置する瀬戸内海に面した呉市に建つ夫婦と子供2人のための戸建て住宅。敷地は中心街から少し入り並木の綺麗な大通りに隣接した場所に位置する。
クライアントからの要望の複数の諸室及びビルトイン駐車場を確保するため、建物規模は、敷地広さを最大限に活用した3階建てとした。また、木造としたいとの要望と構造的な合理性、経済性などを加味し、1階をＲＣ造、2・3階を木造とした混構造とすることが決まった。また、周囲は比較的小さなスケールの住宅や商店が立ち並ぶ地域為、建物はこう配屋根とし高さを抑えることで、周囲に溶け込むファサードとしている。
敷地は準防火地域に位置しており、木造とした場合、外壁の開口部のサイズに制限が出てくる。また、大通りに面した敷地であることから、外部からのプライバシーも確保しなければならない。それらの要件から、外部への開口は限定的なものとし、内側に開いた空間構成とすることにした。敷地いっぱいの矩形ボリュームをくり抜く、あるいは切り取るようなイメージで、廊下やエントランスの動線空間やテラス等を配置していくことで、明るく外気に開放された半外部空間とし、間仕切りを開くとそれらを介した風や光が各室に抜ける計画としている。また、これらの半外部空間は距離を生み出す場としても機能する。
これらのデザインにより明るく開放的でありながらプライバシーも確保された、豊かな日常を過ごすための住宅を追求した。
A detached house designed for a couple and their two children. The site is located in Kure City, in the southwest of Hiroshima Prefecture, and faces the Seto Inland Sea. It is a short distance away from the city center, and adjoins a beautiful tree-lined main street.
To meet the client's request for multiple rooms and a built-in parking space, we sought to maximize the total floor area by designing a three-story structure. Considering the client's preference for a wooden construction, as well as factors like structural feasibility and economic efficiency, we proposed a hybrid structure, with a reinforced concrete base as the first floor, and a wooden structure for the second and third floors.As the building is surrounded by relatively small-scale residences and stores, the façade was designed to blend in with its surroundings, and topped with a relatively low, pitched roof. The roof is slanted towards the street front, creating a low main façade that blends in with the surrounding relatively small-scale residences and stores.
The site lies within a quasi–fire protection zone, with restrictions on the size of the exterior wall openings in wooden buildings. In addition, since the site faces the main street, privacy from the outside must be ensured. To meet these requirements, we limited the openings on the exterior and instead created buffer spaces that allow sunlight and fresh air into the living space, while also providing privacy. As if carving out pieces from a rectangular prism that occupies the entire site, we positioned the corridors, entrance approach, and terraces. These buffer areas create a bright, semi-exterior space that is open to the outside air, and when partitions are opened, wind and light flow through these spaces into each room. These semi-exterior spaces also help maintain both a physical and a psychological distance between the living spaces and its surroundings.
Through these design strategies, we sought to create a bright and open house which can also offer a sense of privacy, where the family can enjoy a rich and comfortable everyday life.
